Do your students struggle with time management, task initiation, organization, and other Executive Functions? Increase your knowledge of Executive Functions, the air traffic controller of the brain. Leave with practical, implementable strategies across classroom settings to promote development of students’ executive functions for academic, social, and behavioral success!
In this session we will discuss some basic components of Norman Webb’s Depth of Knowledge. This framework can help teachers as they prepare for students of varied learning levels. Join us as we discuss more about the type of thinking students must do on the path to their learning goals.
Unleash the power of three-dimensional learning! Educators will discover how to transform abstract concepts into tangible, hands-on experiences in this session. Encourage comparison, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of complex ideas by guiding students to create their own three-dimensional cubes representing these concepts. This session is designed to cater to visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and reading/writing learners, and the instructor is ready to help customize the lesson to fit your specific content. Bring your creativity, be prepared to collaborate, and get ready to bring abstract ideas to life in 3D!
Taking notes is an essential skill for college and career readiness, and it's never too early to start learning note-taking skills. In this interactive session, participants will learn the five steps of AVID's Focused Note-Taking Process and explore ways to imbed the process in classroom instruction to put students in charge of their learning, to develop thinking skills, and to increase student engagement. Whether you teach elementary or secondary, you'll leave with ideas for incorporating Focused Note-Taking in your classroom on Monday.
This session will give teachers the opportunity to explore different organizational options for their classrooms (all grade levels are welcome). We will also present ways to create an exciting and welcoming classroom environment for all students regardless of their learning styles or cognitive abilities. These techniques will promote the highest levels of classroom engagement by making students feel safe, comfortable, willing to take risks, and excited to learn!
